This unit specifies the competences required to install PVC sheathed cable system for a singlephase electrical installation. It involves; identifying electrical cables and accessories, making
cable joints, interpreting electrical symbols, fixing electrical accessories, perform test and
inspection.

This course provides trainees with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, install, test, and maintain small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. It is designed for beginners and technical learners who wish to gain hands-on experience in solar energy systems for domestic and small commercial applications.

Throughout the course, learners will be introduced to the fundamentals of solar energy, including how photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into electricity. The course covers key components of a solar PV system such as solar panels, batteries, charge controllers, inverters, and wiring systems, as well as their functions and selection.

Trainees will also learn how to carry out site assessments, estimate energy requirements, and design simple solar PV systems based on load demand. Emphasis is placed on practical installation skills, including mounting of panels, system wiring, and safe connection of components in accordance with electrical standards.

In addition, the course equips learners with skills in testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar PV systems to ensure efficiency and reliability. Safety practices and the use of appropriate tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) are integrated throughout the training.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to install and maintain basic solar PV systems and apply entrepreneurial skills to offer solar installation services within their communities.
